V-22 Osprey from the Platinum Collection

Flying the V-22 Osprey

Install the V-22 Osprey into your main FSX folder or your main FS2004 folder. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on our installation page.

Press the 'S' key to see the 2D cockpit; press the 'S' key again to see the 3D cockpit and twice more to see the Osprey from the spot plane view. Here's a quick walk around:

  • Press Ctrl + 'E' to start the engine.
  • Press F8 and F5 to view the flap animation.
  • After you take off, press 'G' to see the landing gear fold into the fuselage underneath.
  • Open Main Exit      Shift + E
  • Open Crew Exit     Shift + E + 2

The V-22 is a unique aircraft that includes both flaps and tiliting rotors. To simulate these operations, the flap animation is reversed. The V-22 starts with the flaps down and the rotors in the up position. To retract the flaps and tilt the rotors forward, use the F7 key or the flaps gauge to 'lower' the flaps on the panel

Note that the V-22 rotors will strike the ground if the rotors are in the forward position while on the ground.

Takeoff
Position the V-22 on a runway or helipad. Press F5 to make sure that the rotors are in the full-up position. Increase the throttle to full and pull back on the stick. The V-22 will begin to lift off quickly. Press the F7 key to retract the flaps and tilt the rotors forward.

Press 'G' to retract the landing gear.

Continue pressing F7 as needed until the rotors are in the full-forward positon and then set the desired cruise speed and altitude.

Landing

Approach the runway or helipad at a low altitude at 160 knots. Press F6 to lower the flaps and tilt the rotors upward one notch. Watch the aircraft pitch as the flaps are applied to maintain altitude. Decrease the throttle to lower your speed.

When you speed is 130 knots, press F6 again and maintain your pitch. Decrease the throttle to lower your speed.

Decrease altitude to 1000' AGL and press F6 again.

Lower your altitude to 500' AGL and press F6 again. Now lower you landing gear 'G'.

Lower your altitude to 200' AGL and decrease the throttle. When your speed is 75 knots, press F6.

Lower your altitude to 100' AGL and decrease the throttle. When your speed is 50 knots, press F6.

At 30 knots, press F6 or F5 and maintain aircraft pitch until landed.
