Flying the F-14D Super Tomcat

Install the F-14D Super Tomcat into your main FSX folder or your main FS2004 folder. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on our installation page.

Press the 'S' key to see the 2D cockpit; press the 'S' key again to see the 3D cockpit and twice more to see the Tomcat from the spot plane view. Here's a quick walk around:

  • Move the stick forward and back to see the elevator move up and down.
  • Move the stick from side to side to see the rudder and ailerons move.
  • Press '/' to deploy the spoilers.
  • Press Shift + 'E' to see the main door open and close.
  • In the 3D cockpit view you'll see the stick and pedals move.

Takeoff
Taxi out and position the aircraft on the runway center line.
Set one or two notches of flaps depending on runway length. Apply full throttle.

When you reach about 120 knots, rotate to lift off.

When abeam the end of the runway, retract the landing gear ('G').

Build up speed to 150 knots and climb to assigned altitude.

Landing

Approach at about 140 knots.

You'll want to extend the wings and deploy full flaps on final.

First press F8 which extends the wings about 90% and slightly lowers the flaps. Next press the Flaps button (on pop-up ECU (Shift + '3')) which extends the wings fully and also lowers the flaps fully.

On short final, lower the landing gear.

Maintain 125 knots to touchdown.
