Answers to your Questions

  1. After I install FSDS V3, I am unable to apply textures to any parts. What is the problem?

FSDS V2 uses a special graphics file that has been updated on your system. This graphics file is provide courtesy of graphics guru Martin Wright. The solution to this problem is to download and install the following from Martin's site:

    http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/fsds.htm

  2. Using FSDS V2.2x, the textures are displayed in grey scale instead of color. What can I do to fix this?

Answer: The most likely reason for the grey scale is that you have an outdated copy of mwgfx.dll. During installation of FDSD V2.2x, the most current copy of mwgfx.dll installed into your \Windows\System32 folder.

To fix this, search your drive for mwgfx.dll and remove all copies except for the one in \Windows\System32 folder.

  3. I am a registered user of FSDS V1.x. How can I upgrade to FSDS V2?

Answer: If you are a registered user of FSDS V1.x, you can upgrade to FSDS V2 for a special price of $24. You must have a duly registered copy of FSDS V1.x on your computer.

To upgrade to FSDS V2, please click here.

  4. Will I be able to use my FSDS V1.x aircraft with FSDS V2?

Yes, with FSDS V2 you can Open an FSDS V1.x project .

The following items may be applicaable to the new FSDS V2 project:

Aircraft animator tags are removed - you'll use a different method to animate moving parts
Transformatons - these are no longer supported
SDL macros - the current version of SDL macros are incompatible with FSDS V2
Mirrored polygon - these are no longer supported
Duplicate part names - thesse are renamed to insure that the part names are unique

  5. Will I be able to make aircraft with moving parts using FSDS V2?

Yes. FSDS V2 supports two types of animiation: stock and keyframe.

Stock animation is "automatic". Choose one of the special names for a part and FSDS turns that part into an animated one.

Keyframe animation is more flexible. Choose one of the special names for a part, take a snapshot of the various stages in your animation and FSDS produces an FS model that incorporates more complex animation.

  6. Can I sell aircraft and scenery that I make with FSDS V2?

Yes. The license allows you to sell, barter or trade aircraft and scenery that you make with FSDS V2.

However, you must be sure that you have the right to produce the visual model for the aircraft or scenery.

  7. When using FSDS V1.x I used the mirror command to make double-sided surfaces. Why was the mirror command omitted from FSDS V2?

Answer: We eliminated the mirror command because there is no control over the color or texture of the mirrored polygons.

Alternatively you can Copy and then Paste the desired part to make a duplicate. Then select Polygon | Flip all. This achieves the same thing.

  8. How does Autosave work?

If you're working on a project and have not saved the project within the past ten minutes, FSDS will make a copy of this project. The project is copied to a file named "autosave.fsc" and is located in your main FSDS folder.

Keep in mind that this file represents the state of your project at the time it was automatically saved and will not have all of the changes that you subsequently make to the project. We suggest that you save the project often using a filename other than autosave.fsc.
