Flying the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog

Install the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog into your FSX \SimObjects\Airplanes folder or FS2004 \aircraft folder. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on our installation page.

Press the 'S' key to see the 2D cockpit; press the 'S' key again to see the 3D cockpit and twice more to see the aircraft from the spot plane view.

Here's a quick walk around:

  • Press 'E' to start the engines.
  • Press the yoke forward and back to see the elevator move
  • Press the yoke from side to side to see the ailerons move
  • Shift + 'E' to see the cabin door open and close

Takeoff

For takeoff, taxi out the the runway and line up. When you've been cleared, apply full throttle.

Rotate at 65 knots, pull back and you'll be airborne.

Climb to cruising altitude.

Landing

Maintain 90 knots on approach speed. Drop flaps to 12 degrees.

On short final extend lower flaps to 20 degrees, extend landing gear. Your approach speed will be 75 knots.
