Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions

Question: The F/A-18 Hornet appears to be floating. Can I get it to sit on the ground?

Answer: We have fixed the problem that causes the F/A-18 to "hang" suspended while on the ground. Download and install the update into your main FS2000 folder. In addition to fixing the height, the performance of the F/A-18 and F-14 have been improved.

Question: I just purchased Flight Simulator 2002? How can I use Flight Deck II with FS2002?

Answer: To use Flight Deck II with FS2002 you will need to do two things.

  • Install the FS2000 version Flight Deck II into FS2002 (using your original CD-ROM).

  • Install the Flight Deck II Update for FS2002 (you'll be able to download this below).

Step 1. Installing the FS2000 version of Flight Deck II into FS2002
Follow these steps to install the FS2000 version of Flight Deck II into FS2002. When this is complete, install the Flight Deck II Update.

  1. Insert the Flight Deck II CD-ROM and choose the FS2000 version.

  2. Click Next through the installation until you get to the CHOOSE DESTINATION LOCATION screen.

  3. On the Choose Destination Location screen, click the Browse... button. Now double-click the path to your FS2002's MAIN folder. This typically done by double-clicking the following folders:

    C:
    Program Files
    Microsoft Games
    FS2002

  4. Once the path is set to the FS2002 main folder, click OK.

  5. Now proceed through the installation by clicking Next on each screen.

  6. The Scenery Setup for FS2000 will appear during the installation. Since you are installing this into FS2002, the scenery setup will not work. Click CANCEL and then click OK to verify.

  7. Keep clicking Next to proceed and on the final screen, click Finish.

Step 2. Now that the FS2000 version of Flight Deck II is installed to FS2002, you'll still need to run the Flight Deck Update for FS2002.

This update will automatically look for FS2002 in the Windows Registry. If the destination shown does not point to your main FS2002 folder, you can adjust the path as described above. During the installation of the update, a Scenery Setup for FS2002 will appear. Click Setup Scenery on this screen to add the new scenery to FS2002. If this is not done, or you click Cancel, the USS Nimitz will not be available in FS2002. You can always run the Scenery Setup for FS2002 in the Start | Programs | Abacus Flight Deck II menu.

The procedures for takeoffs and landings (Afterburner and Spoiler) are the same as they were for FS2000.

Shift + F4 - turns the Afterburner on an off
/ - activates the spoiler immediately (will stop the plane immediately)
Shift + / - turns the Auto-Spoiler on and off.

All aircraft will appear in the FS2002's Select Aircraft menu with a manufacturer name: Abacus Flight Deck II.

Question: When using the Scenery Setup, I'm getting an error message. How do I get FS to recognize the scenery?

Answer: The Scenery Setup program makes a back-up of FS's scenery database file (Scenery.cfg file) named Scenery.Flight Deck II. If you re-install FS/CFS, the updated Scenery.cfg file gets replaced with a version that does not have the Flight Deck info in it.

To add the scenery back to FS/CFS2, you will need to remove the Scenery.Flight Deck II file and run the Start | Programs | Abacus Flight Deck II \ Scenery Setup... again.

The best way to delete the file is to follow these steps:

1. Open the Start | Find | Files or Folders (find = Search in som Windows versions)
2. Set the drive to search to the drive where FS/CFS2 is installed.
3. Search for the file named: SCENERY.FLIGHT DECK II
4. When you find the file, click it ONCE to select it.
5. Press the Delete key on the keyboard.
6. Click YES to send it to the Recycle Bin
7. Click Start | Programs | Abacus Flight Deck II | Scenery Setup... This will re-add the scenery.
8. Once complete, open FS/CFS and it should build a new database for the scenery. Once that is done, you are ready to use the carrier.

Another method is to use My Computer to double click the path to the FS/CFS's main folder. Typically you can double-click C:, Program Files, Microsoft Games, then your FS folder (FS2000, FS2002 or Combat Fight Simulator 2). Then you can look for the file called SCENERY.FLIGHT DECK II. Click the file once and continue with step 5 above.
