Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
Who are the authors of FS Flight Deck?
Answer:
FS Flight Deck is a collaboration of several talented individuals.
The prime mover behind FS Flight Deck is aircraft designer Paul Hartl, who's had a deep and long-time interest in military aircraft. His exquisite designs and flight models are the basis for this extensive collection of aircraft carrier based planes. This is Paul's third major collection of add-on planes for Microsoft Flight Simulator. We think it's his best.
Well-know scenery designer Tim Dickens has built the four aircraft carriers from scratch. Note his exclusive "meatball", a visual feedback landing device that helps you set your plane back down on the flight deck. Tim also created the scenery surrounding the aircraft carriers.
Chuck Dome created the new panels for the aircraft. Chuck has been creating useful flight simulator utilities for years and his expertise has contributed to some very authentic military panels.
Question:
I'd like to uninstall FS Flight Deck so that I can move it to a new hard drive. How can I do this?
Answer:
To move FS Flight Deck to a new hard drive, you'll have to first "uninstall" it. Then reinstall FS Flight Deck onto the new hard drive.
You'll find an uninstall program on our ftp site. Download the file fduninst.exe and run it. This copies the uninstall utility into a temporary directory. Running the utility uninst.exe from this temporary directory, removes FS Flight Deck from your system. You'll then be able to reinstall it again.
Question:
The E-2C Hawkeye is a prop plane. But it is relatively "new" aircraft. Why does it have an older WWII-style panel?
Answer:
You're right. To "fix" this, we've designed a new panel. Download this "modern" military prop panel from our ftp site now.
Question:
I'm trying to land on the Essex and I actually end up 'landing' on the lower deck. What's causing this?
Answer:
There is a problem with one of the BGLs. Our FTP site has a replacement file. Download the file wake2.bgl and replace the file of the same name in your fdeck\scenery folder. This new, small file will fix the lower deck landing problem.
NOTE: Press Shift and click on 'replacement file' above you have trouble downloading wake2.bgl.
Question:
I can't add the scenery for the aircraft carriers as described on pages 8 and 12 of the Installation Manual. Am I doing something wrong?
Answer:
The Installation Manual is wrong! The path reads:
Remove the the initial backslash '\' and the trailing period '.'. The Installation Manual should read:
The Installation Manual will be corrected in future printings. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Question:
What are the VOR and ILS frequencies for the carriers?
Answer:
Question:
CFS - Can the FS Flight Deck aircraft be used with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator? Answer:
Yes, all of the FS Flight Deck aircraft can be used with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. There are two ways to move the Flight Deck aircraft from Flight Simulator to Combat Flight Simulator:
For example to use the AD-6 Skyhawk, copy the FS98 folder c:\fs98\aircraft\ad-6sky to the CFS c:\cfs\aircraft folder.
Question:
CFS - When I try to fly the A/F-18 Hornet( or any aircraft using the twin military jet panel) using Combat Flight Simulator, the panel obscures the scenery. What is the problem?
Answer:
The most likely the reason for this is that your video card has less than the 2MB required by CFS. CFS uses a newer version of DirectX which in turn requires more video memory than Flight Simulator 98.
A "work around" for this problem is to right-click on the Instrument Panel window and choose Undock Window. Next drag the Instrument Panel window down slightly so you can see the Cockpit View window that's behind the Instrument Panel window. Click on the Cockpit View window and choose Undock Window. Drag the Cockpit View window over the Instrument Panel window and reduce its size (from the bottom up) until the Instrument Panel is in full view.
