Question: I'm setting the ADF frequency and fly straight on course, but the needle does not respond. Why does my ADF needle always point to East?

Answer:

In order to use Around the World, you will have to switch the scenery database for Flight Simulator. To do this:

This builds a new Scenery database for FS which will only contain the Around the World scenery and the Chicago scenery from FS.

Once the new database has been built, you should have no trouble locking on to the NDB's.

Question: I cannot find the first several NDB's mentioned in the ATW manual. Where are they?

Answer:

The flight plans in the manual are incorrect.

Below are the revised flight plans which replace those on pages 20 and 21.

Here also are the CoPilot Flight Plans for the journey. You will need the Abacus CoPilot program installed to use or print these flight plans:

Oakland, CA to Davis Air Force Base, AZ and Davis Air Force Base AZ to Lakefront, LA.
(You may need to hold the 'Shift' key down when you click to download the flight plans with Netscape.)


Question: Where can I get a CoPilot-compatible map for the Around the World journey?

Answer:

Right here! This is a large map and will take a while to download. After you download this archive, unzip it into your \CoPilot\Maps folder.

Next create a new fileset for the ATW scenery. To create a new fileset for ATW, follow these simple steps:

1. Open CoPilot
2. Click File and Open Scenery Files.
3. Click New
4. Change the Set Title to ATW.
5. Change the Look In box to you your ATW directory or where you installed Around The World.
6. Double click the Africa directory.
7. Double click the Scenery directory.
8. Click the Add All button at the bottom. This will add the following path (or one similar) to your Files Added box.

  • C:\ATW\AFRICA\SCENERY\*.BGL

    Repeat steps 5 through 8 for each of the following directories:

  • africa (done above)
  • arabia
  • ca_az
  • calcutta
  • fl_carib
  • hawaii
  • howland
  • indonesi
  • java
  • karachi
  • khartoum
  • marshall
  • nm_tx_la
  • samer
  • singapor
  • sumatra
  • thailand

    Once you have downloaded the map and extracted it the Copilot\Maps directory, you can add that to the set as well. You will need to edit the ATW set that you created above (click File | Open Scenery Files, select ATW from the 'Sets:' list on the left and click Edit). Once the File Set Files window is open, change the Files of Type to Map Files (*.map). Locate the map you wish to use. If you are using the map you downloaded here, select ATW.MAP.
